GLASS FESTIVAL ADDS A SHIMMER TO SUMMER
The ninth annual Festival of Glass in 2019 adds a shimmer to summer in the north Bellarine, with Festival favourites and fresh features.
Festival favourites
At “Twilight Flames” at 7.00pm on Saturday 16 February, our International Visiting Artists Davide Penso from Murano, Italy and Cèdric Ginart and Karina Guevin from Montreal, Canada will create extraordinary glass sculptures over drinks and nibbles from co-hosts The Range, Curlewis.
Davide, Cèdric and Karina each demonstrate their extraordinary creativity in the auditorium of Drysdale’s Christian College at the 2019 Festival of Glass Expo on Sunday 17 February, 10.00am - 4.00pm. 4,000 to 5,000 visitors will see almost fifty stalls featuring glass art, sculpture, jewelry, mosaics and home ware; the 2019 Treasure Hunt draw; and the Glass Art Awards.
The 2019 Festival includes a greater number and diversity of glass art classes than ever before, with something for everyone, from beginners to experienced glass artists.
Fresh Festival features
Each year, the Festival of Glass committee adds new features to the Festival and this year, Drysdale’s Café Zoo is the venue for three innovations.
First, Davide Penso will run a unique event – a 4-day “Jewellery Lab” between 21 and 24 February, where people of all skill levels can turn their jewellery ideas into wearable pieces – then showcase them at a gala evening!
Secondly, Cèdric Ginart and Karina Guevin will create complex (and quirky!) glass goblets at “Torch and Talk” on Monday 18 February 5.30 – 7.3opm.
Finally, Cèdric and Karina will run the Festival’s first borosilicate glass workshop - “More is better” – between 13 and 15 February.
Thanks to the City of Greater Geelong and the Bendigo Bank, our Awards sponsors, our Treasure Hunt sponsors and other local ‘in kind’ supporters.
